Description: This course outlines the Cross-Border Parent Community and Schools Partnership Programme ‘Easing the Transition from Home to School’ which is a transition programme for children with ASD. This programme was developed by teachers, therapists and trainers from schools in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Course participants will receive a transition pack.

Raised bog formation including how to make a ‘Bog in a Bottle’ 2. Freshwater invertebrate identification including how to make your own identification dials and food webs 3. Description: Aim of workshop: To assist and give direction and guidance to all school personnel in protecting children and dealing with allegations/suspicions of child abuse The workshop will ; • look at the definitions of the various categories of child abuse and familiarise participants with the signs and symptoms of child abuse. • raise awareness of the correct procedures for handling suspicions/allegations/disclosures of abuse • outline the necessity for monitoring and accurate record keeping • give participants the opportunity to examine some sample case studies.

This is not a beginners course. As the course is based on the Scoilnet Blogging service, it is a pre-requisite for teachers attending, that their school already has applied for and activated their Scoilnet Blog account. To apply for your school’s website, log on to www.ncte.ie/Broadband/Webhosting-Blogging/ There will be and information evening held before the course starting date for participants to go through the course content so participants have a better idea of what they will be doing each evening. Description: Under the Data Protection Act, 1998 and 2003, Schools are recognised as Data Controllers – they hold personal information to which individuals are entitled, either on computer and/or in a manual filing system, that facilitates access to that information. This workshop will outline schools’ obligations under the Act and provide guidance in developing a Data Protection Policy.

Description: Following on from the EAL in-service days held in Navan Education Centre. The EAL team have identified workshops as another means of supporting schools – especially schools who do not have a designated EAL teacher. The Primary Professional Development Service (PPDS) in conjunction with Navan Education Centre are now holding an information evening in Navan Education Centre Given that a child with EAL spends the majority of his/her time in the mainstream classroom, this workshop aims to equip class teachers with the necessary skills to facilitate their learning. An overview of how children learn an additional language will be provided, along with an opportunity to explore some practical strategies to support this.

These three modules are aimed at primary and post primary teachers who are interested in integrating Web 2.0 technologies into learning and teaching. • Introduction to Web 2.0 Tools This is the first of the 3 modules of Web 2.0 for Learning, and provides an introduction to web 2.0 tools and their uses in education. • Introduction to Blogging Module 2, Introduction to Blogging, provides an overview of blogging in education, including curricular uses and examples of Irish schools’ blogs. • Introduction to Podcasting Module 3, Introduction to Podcasting, provides an overview of podcasting in an educational context which includes possible curricular uses and examples of podcasts created by Irish schools.
