AUT25-145 Planning for L2LP Students in Mainstream Junior Cycle Science

Target Audience: Science teachers with L2LP students within their junior cycle science classes

The introduction of level two learning programmes at junior cycle has resulted in the mainstream class teacher being required to highly differentiate class content for these students.With no science specific L2LP learning outcomes, these students are placed into the mainstream class, often with very little guidance given to the classroom teacher, which can be overwhelming.

The science curriculum addresses many of the Priority Learning Units learning outcomes for L2LP students.This webinar will give mainstream teachers some ideas on ways to differentiate material for these students, plan their lessons to incorporate these students and most importantly keep evidence of the PLU's that have been covered to help build the L2LP students evidence of work.

Bio of Presenter: Naomi Pierce

Naomi is a teacher of science, biology and chemistry in Avondale Community College in Co. Wicklow. She has been placement tutor for DCU and recently completed a Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning in SETU. Naomi has experience teaching in both a private and DEIS school setting. She is the owner of the Instagram account @the_science_teacher_ and the website www.thescienceteacher.ie, where she shares an insight into her everyday teaching and learning, showcasing resources that she uses from other accounts and websites as well as content that she has created herself.
