Target Audience: 3rd to 6th class students - Also applicable to First - 3rd years

Part 1: The Basics of Sketch Notes

  • Learn about the importance of study skills
  • Draw along with me and explore the basics of this innovative study technique
  • Become familiar with the skills needed to identify key concepts in texts
  • Observe the Sketch Note study technique in action
  • All you need is a pen, paper, and your imagination!

Part 2: Exploring the Practice

In this follow up workshop, we will move beyond the basic drawing skills learned in Part 1. Students will explore the practice of sketch-noting further, with worked examples of how to use sketch notes as a study strategy. Students will sketch along with the presenter in real time while completing some subject specific tasks.

Bio of Presenter: Claire Comerford

Claire completed a BSc in Education in University of Limerick, and qualified as a post primary school Biology and Chemistry Teacher. After spending a couple of years working as a mainstream teacher, Claire returned to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs in Dublin City University. Her special areas of expertise include Numeracy, Science, and Special Educational Needs. Claire created a Numeracy course which is now delivered to all first year students at Coláiste Bríde and has presented her work to the Department of Education at the National Numeracy and Literacy Forum . She worked part time with the PDST on the development of numeracy based resources and has presented to the JMB, OECD and NCCA on her work. She also holds the AP1 post of Teaching and Learning Coordinator and previously Attendance Coordinator in Coláiste Bríde, and has worked extensively with students displaying school avoidance tendencies.
