    Target Audience: All educators interested in promoting Reading for Pleasure.  Join us for the first year of our Irish Teachers Reading Group.

    There will be 5 meetings throughout the year to give you the chance to develop an aspect of Reading for Pleasure in your class.

    1. Workshop 1: Wednesday, 16th October 2024, 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm
    2. Workshop 2: Wednesday, 20th November 2024, 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm
    3. Workshop 3: Wednesday, 29th January 2025,  7.00 pm to 8.30 pm
    4. Workshop 4: Wednesday, 26th February 2025, 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm

    Linking to Learning Outcomes R1, R2, R7, R8 and R10

    The aim of this informal, friendly and supportive, group is:

    • to develop evidence-informed practice in RfP
    • to widen our knowledgeof children’s literature
    • to engage with young peopleas readers
    • to enrich our pedagogy
    • to document theimpact on young people as readers
    • to enable us to build reading communities
    • to encouragereluctant readers

    Presenters - Kirsten Barrett and Hannah Sycamore

    Kirsten Barrett and Hannah Sycamore have been leading Teacher Reader Groups (TRGs) for the last two years in Glasgow, Scotland. 

    Now that Kirsten has moved to Ireland, she is keen to bring this free, evidence-informed CPD to Ireland, which will enrich your understanding of Reading for Pleasure (RfP) pedagogy and practice.  Kirsten has taught for 15 years across different stages in Scotland and Hannah is a newly qualified teacher with a background of working with the Scottish Booktrust.

    They are both passionate about the importance of all children reading for enjoyment and the impact it has on their lives.  They are linking closely with the LAI (Literacy Association of Ireland) to enrich the whole series of webinars.
