Target Audience: This particular webinar is aimed specifically at teachers of Leaving Certificate Higher Level, although throughout the course of the webinar, it is explained how the strategies provided can be adapted for both Ordinary Level English and for Junior Cycle English.

Writing is an extremely complex process; it is something that our students struggle with on a daily basis. This webinar aims to build confident, capable writers in our classrooms by breaking the writing process down into bitesize, manageable components. 

The webinar strives to answer the following questions:

  • What is academic writing?
  • Why do our students find it so difficult?
  • What are the components that make up academic writing?
  • How can I best teach academic writing in my classroom?
  • What practical strategies can I use in my classroom?

Bio of Presenter: Sarah Kelly

Sarah Kelly is a teacher of English in Bandon Grammar School. She has previously delivered webinars on Approaches to Teaching Personal Writing and Approaches to Teaching the Short Story. She is an Executive Member of the INOTE Committee. Sarah enjoys writing and has had her work published in Banshee and The Honest Ulsterman among others.
