Target Audience: Senior Cycle English teachers


This webinar for teachers of post-primary English will:


● Outline ways of approaching and understanding Othello, a single text
only on the Leaving Certificate course three times previously in the
years since 2000.
● Examine in detail key scenes, including Act I scene i and Act III scene
iii.
● Consider problematic elements of the play, including racial and gender
issues.
● Point the way to useful and interesting resources for teachers, in books
and online.

Julian Girdham is an experienced English teacher and conference presenter.
He has organised researchED Dublin, a major international educational
conference on evidence-based practice, which has twice taken place in his
school, St Columbas College in Dublin, as well as an annual summer English

including a fortnightly newsletter on books and teaching. He also writes for a
variety of publications, including the Irish Times and Leader magazine.
