Masterclass in Mental Fitness (P) (PP) (SNA) (EY)

Date:      Thursday, 6th November 2025
Time:      7pm to 8pm
Venue:   Online via Zoom
Target Audience:  Primary and Post Primary Teachers and SNAs

Mental fitness is defined as ‘the flexible capacity to utilize resources and skills to psychologically adapt to internal and external challenges in order to enable optimal human functioning.’ (Robinson et al 2011) Our mental fitness helps us come alive and lead flourishing lives in the way we imagined.

We are now living in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world and now more than ever we need to build and strengthen our mental fitness (in the same way we do our physical fitness) in order to flourish and navigate our everchanging landscape. When we are mentally fit we know we can take the time to pause and deal with any situation that comes our way, allowing us to interact with the world in a different way.

This practical masterclass will introduce 4 specific areas of mental fitness

1)Strengths
2) Relationships
3) Endurance
4) Flexibility

By the End of this workshop you will:
Understand what mental fitness means and how to apply it to your own situation.
Have explored the 3 P’s of Resilience, Personalisation, Permanence and Pervasiveness.
Have an understanding of meaning and purpose and how to gain more meaning and purpose in your current role.
Have gained an introduction to the science of self-compassion and optimism and how to practically adopt these into your daily lives.
Have identified the positive relationships in your lives and what they need to do to nurture them.
Have been introduced to the concept of mindfulness and how to incorporate mindful moments into your daily life.
Have gained an understanding of your strengths and what is good about yourself and how you can utilise them to increase their confidence and wellbeing.
