SP25-132 Creative Pedagogies for Enhancing Oral Language Development in the Primary School Classroom

This webinar will present research-informed approaches to oral language development in alignment with the Primary Language Curriculum. Using a selected picture book as a focal point, this webinar will explore how creative pedagogies can support structured and meaningful oral language interactions. While applicable across a range of primary classes, the recommendations made will be pitched at the middle primary classes. The session will provide practical strategies and resources that can be applied directly in the classroom to enhance language learning.

Presenters: 

Alison Nulty is a trained primary teacher with classroom experience and a Master's in Early Childhood Education, where her research focused on shared reading for oral language development. She is currently a lecturer in Literacy Education at Marino Institute of Education and is pursuing a PhD on early vocabulary development at DCU Institute of Education. Alison is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Literacy Association of Ireland (LAI).

Emma Farragher is a primary school teacher with a Master’s in Literacy Professional Practice from DCU Institute of Education. Her Master’s research focused on the potential of arts-based pedagogies to enhance literacy practices. Emma currently works as a Teacher Fellow at DCU IoE and is an Executive Committee of the Literacy Association of Ireland
